The Masters in Creative Media Practice course is designed to provide flexible opportunities for continuing development and high-level academic recognition in the Creative Media Sector, by which we mean all aspects of new electronic media - film, video, audio, web design, games, education, and various intermediate forms such as 'infotainment' etc. There are two principal pathways through the program.
Pathway 1 is designed for those involved in the sector who already have sufficient professional experience to be awarded Recognition and Accreditation of Learning up to about 45% of the total credit required for completion of the program. Various SAE Research Centres are able to provide research and study support for students enrolled on the MACMP, but students in this category do not need to physically attend any of these Centres and can be supported in their study at a distance by email, internet and telephone contact with their tutors.
Pathway 2 is available for students with a BA or BSc degree but without substantial professional experience; the BA or BSc degree may be either in a creative media subject area, or, if the student demonstrates aptitude and can justify a need for creative media competence in personal development terms, the first degree can be in any subject. Pathway 2 students follow an individually negotiated schedule of Continuing Professional Development activities, usually involving attendance at classes and/or supervised project work. In view of the need for class attendance and supervision these students have to be able to attend an SAE Centre.
Some potential students will wish to combine elements of both the above pathways, involving, for instance, 25% of the program via Recognition and Accreditation of Learning and 20% by Continuing Professional Development.
Details of the pathway to be followed are negotiated in the admission and program approval process.
